This rather large Spanish terracotta planter is perfect for planting small trees and medium bushes. Purchased in France, but originating in Girona, Spain circa 1900, this lovely grand antique is strong, and with care, will live another hundred years. The top opening is 31 inches but the widest part of the planter is about 34 inches. Standing 32 inches tall this planter is a massive example of terracotta craftsmanship. Decorated with a winding ribbon effect where the smooth upper lip meets the curved body, and horizontal etched lines that circle around it. The blueish grey patina is the remains of a glaze, with a solid layer around the top, and speckled residue throughout the rest. This piece is eye catching and beautiful, eliciting warm responses from antique terracotta collectors. A stunning addition to a large indoor space, and a welcome companion to an outdoor garden, this antique will certainly not be available for long.
